"Unnatural diets predispose animals to unnatural outcomes" |

| According to a poster hanging in my vet's office 85 % of all dogs in
the USA are affected by periodontal disease to a certain degree. I have to
admit that my dog used to be a part of this sad statistic. Seeing tartar
building up on my dog's teeth two months after a dental cleaning got me
looking for some answers. You can see on the picture that Zolla`s teeth are clean now. This picture was taking when Zolla turned 5 years old.Last time I cleaned her teeth was when she was 3 years old, right before I started rawfeeding. The idea behind feeding raw is so simple and so logical I can't believe I didn't think of it before. Dogs are carnivores just like their very close, wild relatives - Grey Wolves. According to research done by world-renowned microbiologist, Dr.Wayne, the difference in between the mitochondria DNA of a wolf and a dog is less then 0.2%. We all know that the gray wolf is a carnivore, so is a domestic dog. Of course commercial dog food companies would like us to think that dogs are omnivores, this way they can justified adding all kind of inappropriate things like grains and vegetables to dog food. Frankly, I don't even need to know the DNA similarities between a dog and a wolf. Since they can produce a fertile offspring this says it all on how close they are. When we know that we are feeding a carnivore we only need to look at the diet that this species is meant to eat. Wolves were thriving on raw meaty bones of large ungulates for millions of years. Obviously the diet provided by Mother Nature served them well over years of evolving or they wouldn't be around by now. Dogs were also thriving on raw foods until the idea of commercially made food arose some 80 years ago. Your dog can share your bed and habits, it might need daily hair care and pampering but inside it is still the same dog as the one that shared the first meal with a cave man. There has simply not been enough time for a dog's digestive system to adapt to eating kibble. The result of an improper diet is seen everywhere, look at myriad of illnesses affecting our pets these days. Of course overvaccinating is also plays it's evil role but that is another story. Commercial dog food is not species appropriate at all. Most contain loads of grains along with some other very strange choices of food for a carnivore. Dogs can't digest grains or vegetable matter on their own they don't have certain digestive enzymes to deal with plant material. The dog food companies themselves admit that they use grains, mostly because it is cheap. Even if you use the kibble containing the highest percentage of meat, it is still not good enough for your dog. The cooking process destroys enzymes and vitamins and makes food much less digestible, and why would you settle for anything but best for your Kerry Blue? Many allergies are caused by the presence of grain in dog food. The immune system of a dog gets suppressed due to a constant flow of toxins from tartar covered teeth. In a recent article in a well-known dog magazine, the veterinarian places dirty teeth as the most significant reason for kidney failure. Unfortunately, he doesn't mention raw meaty bones as the best way of keeping your dog healthy. Instead, he goes into the usual "brush your dog 's teeth" routine. This is wonderful, but most people don't do it. Step into any pet store- there are dozens of products available just to help to keep your dog's teeth clean. Most of them don`t work.I know this because I tried just about everything before I learned about raw diet. In reality all your dog needs is raw meaty bones and his/her teeth will be sparkling white. I saw the change first hand after switching my dog to a raw diet. Feeding raw meaty bones is just as inexpensive and convenient but you will also save lots of money on vet bills because your dog will be healthier! So now days my dogs enjoy eating human grade meats and bones rather then swallowing doom nuggets of unknown origin. Seeing my puppy developing beautifully on raw, seeing her using her shiny teeth the way they were designed to, well, I have to say, it is a pure joy!
